How to measure a room

When it comes to laying flooring – be it carpet, vinyl or wood – having the right measurements is crucial. After all, you want to get it right the first time.

To effectively measure your room, you’ll need to calculate the rough area that you need to cover. To do this, you’ll need to find out longest part of the room, and the widest. From here, you’ll need to multiply these distances. So for example, if your room is 6m long x 3m wide, the area of your room will be 18m².

If your room is empty already this should be fine, but if you’re planning to order your flooring whilst furniture and other items are still in the room, it’s important that you make sure the measuring tape isn’t obstructed whilst measuring the longest part of the room.

Once you have your room’s area, you’re ready to go!
